Bass Harbor Head Light Station, in Mount Desert Island, Maine. The ocean meets a large grey and tan-orange rocky outcrop, upon which a small number of dark green coniferous trees stand. Further along the edge of the rocky cliff, a small white lighthouse looks out onto the calm waves before it. Overhead, a few small clouds dot a deep blue sky.

The Northeast project is building on practices used in a Climate Change Refugia mapping pilot study with Acadia National Park, where NPS staff and collaborators identified priority species including migratory birds, culturally-important herbaceous plants, and key tree species. Based on these priorities, we mapped refugia to help inform future monitoring and management at the park. View the Acadia National Park study here: Incorporating climate change refugia into climate adaptation in the Acadia National Park region.
